the crowd flocked to the steps of the highest court in the land to watch the geeks of the Westboro Baptist Church bite the heads off of metaphorical chickens.

Army reservist Steve Clark:

Isn't that amazing? I served in the military to preserve their right to show everybody that they're the biggest idiots in the world.

Westboro Baptists brought their signs.

They held signs thanking God for dead soldiers and breast cancer. (The member of the Phelps clan thanking his maker for breast cancer called breasts "mischief makers." That's a new one to me.)

When challenged on their declarations:

She asked him why he hates Jews, and he said he didn't. He was expressing his love of Jews by informing them that God hates them -- that that's how he expresses love, by telling people what he believes to be the truth.

And from another Phelps supporter who saw an opponent praying:

And then it got weird. She shrieked at an onlooker, who was praying, "The God you're trying to reach won't listen to your crap."
