The P.U. Litzer Awards … and the stench is real

Smell Something Rotten? 2010 P.U.-litzer Prizes recognize the worst of U.S. journalism

12/30/10
At the end of every year FAIR rounds up some of the stinkiest examples of corporate media malfeasance. This year brought no shortage of contenders; indeed, the hardest part of the P.U.-litzers is narrowing down the list.
Readers who think we missed one can share their nominations at the FAIR Blog (fair.org/blog).
And without further ado....

Some (but not all of them) samples …

When Wikileaks reporting produced outrage in this country there were two outraged camps: The first outraged by the truth revealed to an otherwise ignorant public.

The second outraged because Wikileaks told the truth. Broadcaster Diane Sawyer of ABC news earns a P U.

Then there’s David Broder of the Washington Post.

The Washington Post’s Broder is "not suggesting" inciting a war with Iran. He was merely saying it would bring the country together, fix the economy and make Obama one of the greatest presidents of all time.

Give that guy Broder a big P U.

Regarding this year’s mining disaster in West Virginia that took 29 lives, Rush Limbaugh blamed the union:

"The union is generally holding these companies up demanding all kinds of safety. Why were these miners continuing to work in what apparently was an unsafe atmosphere?

Where was the union?” Limbaugh asked.

Truth is, that mine didn’t have a union and the smartest cigar-smoker in America deserves a big P U.

Supporting Arizona’s doofus “crackdown” on illegal immigrants, Faux News warbler Bill O’Reilly.

According to O'Reilly, Phoenix's crime problem is "out of control" (5/3/10); in the state overall, the crime problem is "through the roof" (5/4/10, 5/13/10, 5/14/10), it is "overwhelming" (5/6/10).

One problem: There was no crime wave in Arizona or Phoenix, where authorities were reporting that crime was actually down--which research suggests is typical in areas with higher immigrant populations (FAIR Action Alert, 5/17/10).

Give Mr. Loofah Bill a big fat P U.
